Specifications:
The Biesse HDS / HSD Ceramic Spindle refers to the
high-performance electro-spindles manufactured by HSD Mechatronics (Biesse’s dedicated mechatronics division). These spindles are famous for utilizing structural
black ceramic housings or high-precision
ceramic bearings instead of traditional steel alternatives. They are the standard workhorses found across decades of
Biesse CNC routers, including the iconic Biesse Rover series (such as the Rover 346).
- Ceramic Bearings & Structural Housing: The use of ceramic components minimizes thermal expansion, dramatically reduces weight, and offers superior stiffness. This allows the spindle to run cooler and maintain strict tolerances during long manufacturing shifts.
- Speed & Performance: Typically operating at variable speeds ranging from 1,000 RPM up to 24,000 RPM (or higher), driven by 3-phase asynchronous motor technology.
- Tooling Interfaces: Most legacy and modern variations utilize standard ISO 30 or modern HSK F63 automatic tool changer (ATC) cones. [1]
- Cooling Formats: Available primarily in high-efficiency forced-air-cooled (fan or electric blower) variations, as well as liquid-cooled setups for heavy composite or stone routing
